About the Photographer

A Texas native born in Houston, Courtney grew up on her family’s ranch in Marble Falls. Whether she was walking her goats to the gate or playing hide-and-seek on horseback, she could almost always be found outside.

Her passion for photography began at 15, when she asked for a 35mm film camera for her birthday. After studying photojournalism at the University of Texas at Austin, Courtney followed that camera into a career shaped by travel and storytelling. For years, she documented people and landscapes across the globe, from Asia to South America and many places in between.

But it was a quiet evening back among horses that ultimately brought her work home.

After two straight months on the road and a particularly difficult day, Courtney found herself walking into a familiar pasture. It was the only place she could think to go. Curious horses gathered around her, inspecting the camera hanging at her side, but she wasn’t there to take photographs. She simply sat down in the grass beneath them, scratching foreheads, hugging necks, and watching the sun disappear.

For the first time in a long while, she felt completely at peace. When she finally lifted her camera, she realized that what had begun as the end of a hard day was actually the beginning of something new.

Today, Courtney’s photography explores the quiet connection between horses and the landscapes they inhabit. Drawn to the place where light meets darkness, she creates images that reveal the beauty, strength, and soul found in both. Her work is shaped by her Texas roots and a life also lived out West, from open ranch country to the rolling hills and coastline of California.

When she isn’t behind the camera, Courtney can usually be found searching for a great cup of coffee, a horse to ride, or a line to cast, restoring her 1968 Volkswagen pickup, or dreaming of future adventures in her 1996 FJ80 Land Cruiser with her shotgun rider, Hank the Cowdog.
